Brown dog tick: Unlike most ticks, this species can complete its entire life cycle indoors, breeding in kennels, wall gaps, and baseboards. It poses a disease risk to both pets and people and is especially difficult to address without professional treatment.
Gulf Coast tick: Common in humid coastal brush throughout Collier County and along the Gulf coastline, this tick transmits Rickettsia parkeri, a spotted fever-causing bacterium with symptoms similar to Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Ticks typically need several hours of feeding before disease transmission occurs. That window makes prompt detection and professional treatment meaningful, especially during spring and summer when nymph populations peak.
